Self-care Sunday

Self-care is a phenomenon that we hear about all of the time. Of course, self-care means something different to everyone. For some people, it means taking a bubble bath and doing a face mask. For others, it could mean taking a nap or watching a good movie. For those suffering from anxiety and/or depression, or trying to heal from an illness (myself included), it can be as simple as just getting out of bed.

Self-care isn’t always pretty. It can mean taking a shower after putting it off for days because you have been too exhausted. It can mean eating a healthy and nourishing breakfast because you haven’t felt up to eating. It can mean reaching out to a friend for encouragement. It can mean letting yourself cry. It can mean whatever you want or need it to.

It can be especially tough to practice self-care when you feel sick or just down right shitty all of the time. This is something I have really been making an effort to do over the last few months. With the world being turned upside down right now, it is more important than ever to make time to take care of yourself.

For today’s self-care Sunday, I decided to take a hot, lavender bath. Taking baths has been extremely helpful in my healing and detox process. Why? Because there are SO many bath products that can be used to help relax and detox the body. I use a lot of Epsom salts, seaweed detoxes, relaxing bath bombs, and natural bubble baths.

Today, I used my new favorite Alaffia Lavender bubble bath. It is made with minimal all-natural ingredients, which are all cruelty free & vegan (of course), and it smells amazing!

I typically light a candle and put on my favorite music or binge watch some of my favorite Netflix shows. I used to have trouble relaxing while taking a bath because I felt so much pressure to just RELAX. For those of you who know me, you know that I don’t relax super easily. I need music or something similar to distract me so I can actually relax without realizing it.

Today, I lit a cedar and lavender candle and pulled some fresh lavender from our garden to add a boost to the already amazing lavender bubble bath. I typically like to use candles made with soy or coconut wax, to try to eliminate breathing in unnecessary chemicals.

Here are some of my favorite bath products:

I also had some company from our sweet little Remi. He is super fascinated with water and bubbles! And, he loves to stick his feet in the tub...He’s definitely our wild child!

So, what is your favorite way to practice self-care? What are you doing for YOU today?

Hang in there, keep going, and make time for you.

Sincerely,

Samantha Nicole
